For our ceremony, we are honored to serve raw, organic, fairtrade cacao made from the rare and ancient Nacional variety—a true gem of Ecuador.
Nacional cacao is one of the oldest and most treasured cacao varieties in the world, native to the lush rainforests of Ecuador. It is known for its floral aroma, rich complexity, and gentle potency, making it deeply suited for heart-opening and ceremonial use. Unlike most commercial strains, Nacional is genetically pure, non-hybridized, and carries an energetic signature that has been revered for centuries.
🌱 Radically ethical and regenerative:
This cacao is directly sourced by a close friend, who partners with smallholder farmers in Ecuador. These farmers are paid over seven times the typical wage, honoring their traditional wisdom and supporting community resilience.
🌳 Rainforest restoration in action:
This is more than just ethical trade—this is regenerative trade. The cacao is grown in agroforestry systems that help regenerate the rainforest, restore biodiversity, and enrich the land for future generations.
🔥 Kept raw through fermentation, not roasting:
Unlike conventional cacao, which is roasted at high temperatures, this cacao is kept raw through a careful fermentation process that preserves its natural enzymes, nutrients, and theobromine—the compound that gives ceremonial cacao its euphoric, heart-opening effects.
